Extreme
Singing II: The La Rue Requiem
Vox
will once again make history by becoming the first modern ensemble in the world
to record the Requiem by Pierre de la Rue, unaccompanied, and at its written
pitch. This work is set at such an extraordinarily low range that many
scholars have called it "unperformable". In addition to
shattering this misconception, the concert and recording project will involve
other examples of "extreme singing" from the Renaissance, include a
work featuring the lowest note ever written in Renaissance music!
In
addition to the concert and recording project, the weekend activities include an
interactive, open rehearsal where all are invited to a behind-the- scenes look
at the rehearsal process. Participants will have the opportunity to ask
questions of the performers and the director about the music, the history and
the recording process.
